Zombie Frappuccino: The Perfect Farewell to Halloween

By Ellie Drabnis on November 8, 2017

Halloween ended and on November 1, suddenly everyone was singing Christmas carols. All the while, big retailers had their clearance section of Halloween decor and suddenly had brand new Christmas decor covering the shelves.

Christmas is barely here and, while I might not love Thanksgiving, even I have to admit that it’s not Christmas time just yet.

Also, shouldn’t Halloween get a proper goodbye? For me, the Zombie Frappuccino was the perfect farewell to Halloween.

The Zombie Frappuccino was a limited-time drink being offered by the Starbucks Coffee Company. This drink was only available from October 26 until October 31.

As I was given my Zombie Frap, I couldn’t help but hum the song, “What’s This“ from The Nightmare Before Christmas, considering that by the time November began, all the scariness (and scary fun, at that) of Halloween would be long forgotten.

But, I decided to live in the moment of enjoying my ghoulish beverage.

I ordered a tall (Starbucks’ small size) since it is very important to order a smaller sized drink if you’re trying a beverage for the first time.

The green cream base of the drink was sour caramel apple flavor while the ‘blood drizzle’ was made up of mocha caramel. The ‘brains’ were a pink whipped cream. These colors were intriguing all while complimenting each other nicely to create the illusion of a bleeding zombie brain.

I asked for light whipped cream, meaning not a ton of whipped (that does not mean some sort of diet whipped topping). Anyway, the tartness of sour apple mixed well with the sweetness of the mocha caramel. Starbucks does it again with a definite balance of flavors. Not one flavor overpowered the other.

Sure, the flavors were perfectly balanced but I couldn’t go on to chug the Zombie Frap straight away. No, it was a lot of fun to watch the mocha caramel mixture bleeding throughout the drink. The pink whipped cream on top looking like rotting brain added to the fun.

The pink and the reddish looking mocha caramel went hand in hand to create the ‘rotting brain’ illusion.

And no, the pink whipped cream was only pink because of food coloring; it did not have its own flavor. Though, that is what made the drink the better; adding another flavor to the drink would’ve not only ruined the balance but it wouldn’t have been nearly as much of a treat.

The sweet and sour combination definitely brought back good childhood memories of past Halloween celebrations and plenty of the treats from those times.

Once again, the Zombie Frappuccino was the perfect farewell to Halloween. And, I would definitely order it again if ever given the chance … who knows? Maybe it will be back again next year.

I would definitely order the Zombie Frappuccino again.
